Cuba Simplifies Arrival and Pre-Departure COVID19 testing for Canadians

In response to Canada’s new COVID 19 testing requirements for air passengers arriving back in Canada, Cuba is implementing a program for Canadian travellers to obtain a PCR test, at their hotel instead of an off-site clinic. The selected destinations that Canadians will be able to get tested at their resorts is Varadero, Cayo Coco, Cayo Santa Maria and Holguin. The cost for the test is 30.00 USD payable by the visitor only by credit card or debit or Visa (no cash).

Visitors will be advised upon arrival during the welcoming briefing at their resort about all the details on how to get tested and how to arrange the appointment with the hotel doctor. For visitors staying in private homes they can get tested at international clinics which are located throughout the country.

Cuba has also further simplified the entry process for Canadian visitors to Cuba. Visitors need only their passport, tourist card and COVID-19 insurance which is included in the holiday package or they can buy it locally upon arrival for 30.00 USD).A PCR test will be done upon arrival at the airport in Cuba.

Canada has implemented a new testing requirement for all international travellers (5 years of ageand older) arriving by air (including Canadians returning) as of January 7, 2020.The restriction mandates that all travellers (five years of age and older) flying to Canada to show a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of boarding their flight.

Failure to be able to present a negative test at the time of checking in or boarding the flight will mean an automatic denial of boarding by the airline operating the flight.

Travellers are responsible for arranging and covering the costs of tests in destination.
