Canada Lifts Blanket Travel Advisory

The federal government has lifted the global "non-essential" travel advisory for fully-vaccinated Canadians, returning to country-specific risk assessments. Unvaccinated travellers are still advised to avoid all non-essential travel, and the global ‘avoid all cruise ship’ advisory remains for all travellers regardless of vaccination status.

All travellers are advised to stay informed of COVID-19 activity at destinations, to use personal protective measures like mask wearing, frequent hand washing, maintaining physical distancing, and to follow the public health measures of any destination.

The government has not changed the requirement for a pre-departure molecular COVID-19 test ( PCR) for returning international travellers who are fully-vaccinated. This continues to be a significant barrier and dis-incentive for travellers.

Now, Canadians travelling abroad are advised to be fully vaccinated for the best protection against the COVID-19 virus, as authorities note that community transmission of COVID-19 continues in many countries.

Vaccinated Canadians travelling internationally are still advised to follow local health measures as well as continuing to mask, wash / disinfect hands frequently and try to stay physically distant.

In addition, arrival protocols, testing and using the ArriveCAN app remain in place.
