Tulips in the Spring, tours for 2022

When I think of Tulips I think of Holland. The state of Holland, in the country of the Netherlands, began producing tulips in the 16th Century. At that time Tulips were considered the most elegant and expensive flower.A very wealthy economy was built of the production of tulips and although they have not maintained their value, the production has never stopped.

Every year in Amsterdam there is a Tulip Festival for the whole month of April, called Floriade Expo. The most spectacular tulip gardens are in a small town called Keukenhof (Kitchen Garden) about 30 minutes from Amsterdam.

During Tulip Festival it is recommended that you purchase entry tickets to the gardens in advance. You can reach Keukenhof by car, train, bus or bicycle.

There are many ways to tour the Netherlands and see the Tulips. Here are a few suggestions.

  • Private Tour - Travel with only your spouse or family, you choose your own itinerary, and have a private guide. The tour is designed specifically for you.The price will be higher than a standard bus tour because instead of sharing the expense of the transportation and guide, you are carrying the cost.
  • River Cruise – Many Cruise lines offers a 7-night Cruise through the canals and waterways. The cruise includes the Netherlands and Belgium.Experience Amsterdam’s colorful canals, the whimsical Kinderdijk windmills and the art of Rubens and Michelangelo. River Cruising is carefree, all-inclusive travelling with gourmet meals, drinks, cabins, and all excursions included.
  • Coach tours – Globus Vacations offers a 9 day coach tour with a maximum of 24 guests on a 44 seat bus.The tour starts in Amsterdam and ends in Brussels. It includes daily breakfast and three group dinners.
  • Bike & Barge Tours – These are very popular in the Netherlands. If you enjoy bicycling, you should consider taking this 8 day tour.It starts and stops in Amsterdam. Not quite as luxurious as a River Cruise, it is still has it’s charms. You can bring your own bike or rent a bike and helmet. All your meals are included but not your alcohol. The Barge travels along the canals while you bicycle, there are daily short and long routes, or you are welcome to stay on the barge.
  • On your own – Amsterdam is a beautiful city with a good transportation system.Taking the train from the airport to the City Centre is very easy.Once there, you can walk the district and canals with ease.Private tours can be booked for seeing the Red Light District, country side bike tours, private canal cruises, and the Van Gogh and Anne Frank Museums.
